Winding puts two loads on a cable that a linear application never sees: tension along the axis, and torsion as each layer crosses the one below. Reeling cable is built for both — a tensile member takes the axial load and the lay is arranged so the cable does not corkscrew as it spools. Using drag chain cable on a reel is the most common cause of conductor breakage in hoists.
The drum diameter, the number of layers and the payout length together decide the lay and the tensile member. State all three; a construction that works on a single-layer spool will fail on a multi-layer drum.

Reeling and Hoist Cable buying questions.
Drag chain cable suits linear reciprocating flexing inside a carrier. Reeling cable winds onto a drum, so it must also carry tensile load and resist torsion.
Nitrile resists the oil and grease present around hoists and drums, and holds up against the abrasion of layer-on-layer contact.
Yes. Constructions in this family run up to 70 mm² and beyond, with the tensile member scaled to the suspended load.
