A flat cable solves two geometric problems at once: it bends in one plane only, so it fits where a round cable's bend radius will not, and it resists being squashed where a round cable would roll or flatten under a moving part. The trade-off is orientation — bending a flat cable out of plane is the failure mode.
Flat cable must be installed with the bend plane oriented correctly, so the travel direction has to be stated. Where the run is vertical, as in elevator travelling cables, the suspended weight and the number of cores decide the tensile element.

Every construction in this table is a build we have made, described by its technical data only. The buyer, the platform it went into and the application remain that buyer's — we do not use a customer's design as a reference or a case study. If you need a reference for a comparable programme, ask at enquiry stage and we will say what we are able to share.
Flat and Elevator Cable buying questions.
It bends in a single plane, fitting a tighter envelope than a round cable of the same cross-section, and it resists compression. The constraint is correct orientation at installation.
Yes. Several constructions in this family are built for vertical travel with suspended weight, carrying power and signal in one flat profile.
Yes. Flat constructions with single-mode or multi-mode fibre alongside copper are in this family.
